A very important item in automotive electronics is the FAKRA and HSD connectors. These products are widely suitable for the field of Internet of Vehicles, and can raise the safety and reliability level of in-vehicle multimedia entertainment systems and automotive electronic systems to a new level. It is of great significance to the entire Internet of Vehicles system related to the safety of the vehicle system. It has been widely used at present.

The so-called FAKRA is a car audio and antenna connector jointly launched by 12 European and American car manufacturers led by German car manufacturers in 2000, with a maximum of 40pins. General FAKRA needs to meet the American USCAR and German FAKRA automotive standards. FAKRA has the characteristics of high performance, cost-effective RF characteristics and so on.

FAKRA is the abbreviation of FAchKReis Automobil (the automotive expert team is composed of engineers from BMW, Huber-Suhner, Rosenberger and other companies, and the related connector business and technology of Huber-Suhner was merged into Rosenberger in 2010). Originally used by BMW for car radio antenna connection, FAKRA has become a common standard RF connector in the automotive industry and is widely used in the industry.

The first generation of FAKRA products released by Rosenberg in 2000 was based on the RF connector SMB interface and added a plastic case structure. The integration of the plastic case made the FAKRA product suitable for rapid assembly on the vehicle and ensured that the connection was stable and not disconnected.

The second-generation FAKRA product has optimized the design, clarified the interface standard performance requirements, and written the requirements into ISO20860-1 released in 2004. The second-generation products are mainly completed by turning.

Rosenberg released the third-generation FAKRA in 2007, optimizing the cost while maintaining the performance of the second-generation. The third-generation products are mainly processed by stamping (drawing processing is also used in the industry), which is more suitable for fully automated production.

2. Basic introduction

2.1 Performance parameters of FAKRA connector

According to the parameter requirements in IS0 20860.

Main electrical performance parameters: transmission frequency 0-4GHz; characteristic impedance 50 ohms; maximum carrying current 1A

Main mechanical performance parameters: lock retention force 100N error proof force 40N

2.2 Common applications

Wireless signal transmission: vehicle AM/FM; GPS; car networking (2~4GHz, including transmission); remote control, etc.

Video signal transmission application: Based on the outbreak of ADAS, it is mainly used in cameras.

2.3 Relevant standards

Design standard: ISO20860; USCAR18

Verification standard: LV214; USCAR2; USCAR17

2.4 Adapter cable

Commonly used cable models: RG 174; RTK 031; RG59; RG179; RG58

2.5 waterproof performance

Using the waterproof version of the harness end connector, the waterproof level of IPX7/IPX9K can be achieved at the mating interface of the connector.

3. The structure of the Fakra connector

3.1 The overall structure of the harness end connectors

A common FAKRA connector consists of a molded case, outer conductor, center conductor, insulator, crimp sleeve (harness end connector only) and secondary lock (harness end connector only).

3.2 Secondary lock, color + mechanical error proofing

Secondary Lock: Ensures the terminal is in place and increases terminal retention. Secondary locks are usually purple.

Color + mechanical error proofing: There is a structural design to prevent wrong mating on the mating interface of the connector, and different error proofing structures have corresponding plastic shells of different colors. Rosenberg's FAKRA connectors provide 14 types of error-proof coding.

Coding A: DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting)/radio equipment without phantom support. The plastic case color is black.

Coding B: DAB/Radio equipment with Phantom support. The color of the plastic case is white.

Coding C: GPS global (satellite) positioning system. The plastic case color is blue.

Coding D: GSM mobile phone global system for mobile communications. The plastic case color is grape purple.

Coding E: TV 1, Coding F: TV 2. The plastic case colors are green and brown respectively.

Coding G: remote control/keyless entry system, plastic case is gray.

Coding H: GPS, the plastic case is purple.

Coding I: Radio controlled parking heating, plastic case is beige.

Coding K: Wireless devices with intermediate frequency (IF). The plastic case color is curry yellow.

Coding L, M, N: undefined. Plastic case colors are: carmine, pink orange, pink green.

Coding Z: general purpose. The plastic case is aqua blue.
