Circular Connectors

Explore Circular Connector Products

Circular connectors provide secure power, signal and data connections for industrial automation, sensors, machinery, transportation equipment, test instruments and harsh-environment systems. Their round housings support multiple contact arrangements and reliable locking mechanisms while helping resist vibration, moisture and accidental disconnection.

Elecbee offers circular connector assemblies, circular connector adapters, circular connector accessories, circular connector contacts, and backshells and cable clamps for cable, panel and PCB installations.

Circular Connector Assemblies

Circular connector assemblies include plugs, receptacles, cable connectors and panel-mount connectors supplied as complete mating components. Available designs cover compact sensor connections, industrial power and signal transmission, waterproof installations, audio equipment and military-style applications.

Circular Connector Adapters

Circular connector adapters connect different genders, mounting configurations or connector interfaces without replacing the complete cable assembly. Before selecting an adapter, verify the connector series, contact arrangement, gender, electrical rating and mechanical compatibility on both sides.

Circular Connector Accessories and Contacts

Circular connector accessories may include protective caps, sealing components, mounting hardware and replacement parts. Circular connector contacts must match the connector series, contact size, wire gauge and termination method.

Contact material and surface plating affect conductivity, corrosion resistance, mating durability and cost. Read our connector contact plating comparison to compare gold-, silver- and tin-plated contacts.

Backshells and Cable Clamps

Backshells and cable clamps provide strain relief, cable support and additional mechanical protection at the rear of a connector. Select them according to connector series, shell size, cable diameter, outlet direction and environmental requirements.

How to Choose a Circular Connector

The right circular connector depends on electrical performance, connector size, number of contacts, locking mechanism, mounting style, termination method and operating environment. Our circular connector parameters guide explains insulation resistance, withstand voltage, contact pressure and environmental factors that should be checked during selection.

Choose by Connector Series

Start by identifying the connector family used by the equipment. Connectors from different series may look similar but can have different threads, shell dimensions, keying systems and contact arrangements.

  • M-series connectors: Commonly used for sensors, actuators, industrial Ethernet, automation equipment and control systems.
  • GX connectors: General-purpose threaded circular connectors used in electronic equipment, instruments, lighting and low-voltage connections.
  • MIL-DTL connectors: Rugged connector families organized by standardized shell styles, insert arrangements and coupling mechanisms.
  • Circular waterproof connectors: Designed for industrial and outdoor installations exposed to dust, rain or washdown.
  • Push-pull connectors: Suitable for equipment requiring fast connection and release without rotating a threaded coupling nut.

Choose by Size and Contact Count

Connector size affects installation space, contact capacity and cable compatibility. Compact connectors suit small sensors and instruments, while larger housings can accommodate more contacts, thicker wires or higher electrical loads.

Always confirm the number of pins or sockets, contact layout and gender. Two connectors from the same series and shell size may still be incompatible if their insert arrangements or keying positions differ.

Choose by Locking Mechanism

  • Threaded coupling: Provides secure retention for machinery, sensors and vibration-prone installations.
  • Bayonet coupling: Supports faster mating with a short turning action.
  • Push-pull locking: Allows quick connection and release in frequently serviced equipment.
  • Push-fit coupling: Suits applications where compact size and frequent mating are more important than high retention force.

For quick-connect applications, browse push-pull connectors.

Choose by Mounting and Termination

Circular connectors are available in cable-mount, inline, panel-mount and PCB-mount configurations. Panel receptacles may use front- or rear-mount installation, while cable connectors may be straight or right-angle depending on the available space.

Common termination methods include solder cup, screw terminal, crimp and PCB soldering. Select the termination according to wire gauge, production volume, available installation tools and maintenance requirements.

Choose by Environmental Protection

For outdoor, washdown or industrial environments, verify the IP rating in the fully mated condition. Also consider operating temperature, vibration, chemical exposure, cable sealing and housing corrosion resistance.

Browse circular waterproof connectors for sealed industrial and outdoor connections. Check whether the stated protection rating applies when the connector is mated and whether a protective cap is required when it is disconnected.

Popular Circular Connector Series

M-Series Sensor Connectors

M-series connectors are widely used for sensors, actuators, field devices, industrial communication and automation systems. Available categories include M5 connectors, M8 connectors, M9 connectors, M12 connectors, M16 connectors and M23 connectors.

Smaller M5 and M8 connectors are useful where installation space is limited. M12 connectors support a broader range of sensor, actuator, fieldbus and industrial Ethernet applications. Larger M16 and M23 connectors may provide additional contacts or support different signal and power requirements.

For an overview of these industrial interfaces, read our M-series sensor connector guide. If you are choosing between the two most common sizes, the M8 vs M12 comparison explains their differences in size, contact configurations and applications.

GX Aviation Connectors

GX series connectors are threaded circular connectors commonly used in instruments, electronic equipment, lighting, control panels and low-voltage power or signal connections. Common shell sizes include GX12, GX16 and GX20.

Use our GX connector guide to compare common GX sizes, pin counts and mounting options. The GX12 vs GX16 comparison provides more detail about their dimensions, electrical ratings and typical uses.

Although GX12 and M12 connectors have similar nominal diameters, they use different interface designs and are not interchangeable. Read M12 vs GX12 before selecting either series.

MIL-DTL and Military-Style Connectors

Elecbee offers MIL-DTL-5015 connectors, MIL-DTL-D38999 connectors and MIL-DTL-26482 connectors for industrial, transportation, communication and other demanding installations.

Selection requires careful matching of the connector style, shell size, insert arrangement, contact type and plug or receptacle configuration. For MS5015-style products, see our MS5015 part number guide before ordering.

Circular Waterproof Connectors

Circular waterproof connectors are intended for outdoor lighting, industrial machinery, marine equipment and installations exposed to dust, rain or washdown.

When selecting a waterproof connector, compare its IP rating, cable diameter range, sealing structure, housing material and operating temperature. The complete connection must be properly assembled and fully mated to achieve the specified protection level.

Push-Pull and XLR Connectors

Push-pull connectors provide quick mating for instruments, test equipment and applications requiring frequent connection and removal.

For professional audio, stage equipment, microphones and balanced signal connections, browse XLR connectors. Products that do not fit the primary connector families can be found under Other Circular Connector Assemblies.
