The XIAO nRF52840 is a compact, low-power wireless microcontroller development board built around the Nordic nRF52840 SoC. It combines a 64MHz Arm Cortex-M4 processor with floating-point support, Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, Bluetooth Mesh, NFC, 1MB internal Flash, 256KB RAM and 2MB onboard QSPI Flash. Its pre-soldered headers and 21 × 17.8mm footprint make it suitable for wearable electronics, wireless sensors, embedded machine learning and compact IoT prototypes.
The Nordic nRF52840 integrates a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M4 processor operating at up to 64MHz. Its hardware floating-point unit, 1MB internal Flash and 256KB RAM provide suitable resources for Bluetooth protocol stacks, sensor processing, embedded control and compact machine-learning applications.
Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity and an onboard 2.4GHz antenna support communication with smartphones, computers, gateways and compatible wireless peripherals. Bluetooth Mesh support enables development of distributed lighting, sensor and automation networks when used with compatible software.
Dedicated NFC pins provide access to the nRF52840 NFC interface for compatible external NFC antenna circuits. This supports applications such as device identification, tap-based interaction and simplified wireless-device commissioning.
The board provides 11 PWM-capable GPIOs, six ADC channels, UART, I²C and SPI interfaces for connecting sensors, displays, actuators and communication peripherals. An SWD interface supports compatible programming and hardware-debugging equipment.
The board can receive 5V input through USB Type-C or operate from a compatible 3.7V rechargeable lithium battery. Integrated battery management, selectable 50mA or 100mA charging current and standby consumption below 5μA under specified conditions support portable and intermittently active wireless devices.
The 21 × 17.8mm board features pre-soldered headers for immediate breadboard and jumper-wire connection. Its single-sided component layout also supports integration into compact wearable devices and custom carrier boards.
