1. what is the difference of 256 k and 512 k?

256 k proxmark 3 use AT91SAM7S256 chip, while 512 k proxmark 3 use AT91SAMS512. 

The difference is flash memory sizes, if for normal purpose, 256 k is big enough for most of application, you can use the PM 2.0 software to accomplish most of work.

While if ​you need to use other software, for example  Iceman firmware or other firmwares( with more functions than PM2.0), then you need to burn the firmware into the proxmark 3, which take up certain flash memory of proxmark 3.

As per our testing, Iceman firmware will take up 212 k flash memory, there is only 44 k flash memory left for 256k Proxmark 3., so under this scenarios, we recommend you choose 512 k flash memory
